Run time: 143 mins
Where do I even begin. This triumphantly stupid yet outrageously entertaining saga continues with gravity defying verve; the original must seem like some piece of avant garde cinema by now.
First let’s collate a checklist of delirious feats you’ll witness: cars swinging across a raveen? Check. Cars thrown around using high-powered magnets? Check. Cars strapped to a rocket, hurtling into outer space? Double check.
Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) – a man whose every second utterance is about the importance of family – has a hitherto-unmentioned younger brother called Jakob (John Cena), who works for the playboy son of a billionaire dictator. Jakob is hunting for the parts of a contraption that will allow his employer to wage cyber-warfare on any country of his choosing, and naturally it falls to the Fast gang to stop him, since they were all recruited by a secret government agency two films ago, for reasons that may or may not have made sense at the time. If you imagine a film adaptation of a kid smashing his Hot Wheels into oblivion, well, you’re not even close. (Jack Whiting)
