Run time: 148 mins

George Miller’s gasoline-soaked prequel is a gritty, gripping tale of revenge in the middle of a world gone wild.

Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus (Chris Hemsworth). Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home. The Mad Max franchise, beginning in 1979, has continuously set the benchmark for post-apocalyptic storytelling and world-building in cinema. Taking a phenomenal, powerful shift in approach from 2015’s fantastic Fury Road, Miller continues to prove why he is the master of the modern myth. This is another breathtaking, gear-crunching epic of carnage and chaos.

Inheriting the role from Charlize Theron, Joy thrives where so many others could have fallen, investing a strong emotional undercurrent as a fierce warrior taking charge of her life. And as for Hemsworth, this may just be his finest acting hour. Set against a canvas of dystopia, despair and glory, this is brutal, big-screen brilliance.
