Run time: 116 mins
Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is a bodyguard on sabbatical, and who can blame him? The man has been through a lot; protecting world-renowned con artist and hitman Darius Kincaide (Samuel L. Jackson) practically left him with PTSD.
And so he decides, for his mental well-being, to leave that life behind and take up things like yoga, meditation and anything and everything that can sooth his soul.
But things aren’t that simple in the world of a hitman’s bodyguard; during his break at a resort, a firefight breaks out and none other than a gun-toting Salma Hayek emerges from the chaos. Turns out she’s the volatile wife of Kincaide, and needs Bryce’s help to save her hubby. This, of course, goes against everything Bryce has been working to forget; coupled with his recently accepted pacifist lifestyle, and you can imagine the hijinks that ensue.
Antonio Banderas shows up as the villain too, so there’s the El Mariachi reunion you’ve been waiting for. Reynolds is just being Reynolds again, and if that brand of Deadpool humour doesn’t appeal to you then fear not, as Hayek steals the show. (Jack Whiting)
