Charles Dickens’ yuletide classic meets the wonderful world of Jim Henson in this 30th anniversary celebration screening.
We all know the story; receiving visits from spirits of Christmases past, present and future, the miserable Scrooge is shown error of his self-serving ways. Dickens’ source material is so powerful and thought-provoking that any adaptation almost automatically gains a level of quality infrequently found in contemporary storytelling. So, 30 years on, it’s no wonder that the Muppet’s version continues to provide old and young alike with a sense of wonder. A musical extravaganza featuring Michael Caine as Scrooge, Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy as Bob and Emily Cratchit and the Great Gonzo narrating as Dickens himself, it’s one of the finest versions of A Christmas Carol ever put to screen and pure joy from start to finish.
Working on multiple levels with an inspiring amount of effort and heart, it is hard to find any other version of the story to stand out quite this much and really capture the full potential of what this story can be. A holiday staple that deserves to be seen time and time again.
