American writer-director Lance Hammer brings his intimate, observational style to London for a story about love, family and the difficult choices that come when illness changes the person we know.

Anna Calder-Marshall plays Leslie, a woman living with advanced dementia, with Tom Courtenay as Martin, her devoted husband. Their world is unsettled when Leslie’s daughter Amanda (Binoche) and granddaughter Sara (Florence Hunt) discover Martin and Leslie being intimate, prompting difficult questions about consent, care and where the boundaries of love and responsibility lie.

Rather than offering easy answers, Hammer allows these dilemmas to unfold through the family itself. Amanda and Martin may disagree about what is best for Leslie, but their arguments are rooted in the same love for her, lending the film a powerful sense of empathy.

Binoche brings warmth and humanity to Amanda, while Courtenay is quietly mesmerising as a man caught between devotion and uncertainty. Calder-Marshall’s remarkable physical performance completes an exceptional trio in this raw, compassionate portrait of love in its most challenging form.
